One of Made by Rae's two beginner sewing patterns, the Ruby dress or tank is a great addition to any sewist's closet. The pattern features a contrast yoke with a gathered bodice, so there's no need for bust darts, zippers or closures! The bias-bound neckline and armholes give a professional finish. Sew your Ruby dress up in a rayon challis and pair with your favorite sandals for an easy summer outfit. Both the Ruby tank and dress layer well for year-round wear.

The gingham Ruby Tank Top pictured above was sewn in this double cloth cotton from Imagine Gnats.

Additional Notes

This 23-page PDF pattern includes all pattern pieces and step-by-step instructions with illustrations.

This turned out very baggy and "potato sack" like. It was easy to sew, but really needs some darts or something at the waistline. It gets "caught" on my butt, making the waist pouf out even more. I've tried widening the hips, and narrowing the waist, but to no avail. I might to try salvage it by making it a top.

As with all of Rae's patterns, the directions are clear and easy to follow. She also has tutorials on her blog for variations. This top comes together very easily and is really cute. I don't know that it's super flattering on my body, but I have a few tweaks in mind that I'd like to the next time I sew this one up. I've sewn two up two tops so far and would like to sew up a ruby dress as well.

I already have a dress planned! Great summer pattern.

I love this pattern. It's very easy to adapt to get lots of different looks.
