On days when it's too hot for pants, but style and structure are still a must, the Alder Skirt by Imagine Gnats is where it's at. The single front pleat adds a smack of visual interest while the generous pockets are entirely functional. No zippers on this puppy make it a great skirt for a beginner sewist or a quick and easy sew for a sewing veteran. Tuck a fitted tee into the skirt for a casual summertime look. Wear it with tights and a leather jacket for a chilly winter day.

Additional Notes

This 34-page PDF download includes all pattern pieces and step-by-step instructions with illustrations. Required fabric table is based on 44" wide fabric bolts.

This skirt was easy to sew, and the instructions were good. I had to think a bit about the assembly, but that was my doing - the main fabric was taken from a reclaimed garment. While I love the way this skirt looks when it is on, it's a challenge to get on. I have a narrow waist, and getting the elasticized waist over my hips requires some tugging. This pattern is probably perfect for someone with more similar waist-hip measurements; for me, it puffs out above my derriere. Although the heavier denim mostly remedies that, my next go will feature a side zip.
