Syrah Skirt Maternity
This skirt is so comfortable for pregnancy! I have 9.5 weeks to go in my pregnancy, and I'm sure the skirt can handle my belly growing during that time. Also, I'm hopeful that I'll get some wear out of the skirt during the postpartum period. I contacted the author of this pattern for advice on which waistband to choose, and she said that either would work during pregnancy. I went with the flat, unruched waistband. The only thing is that the waistband will be worn lower on one's body than when not pregnant -- making the skirt longer. To accommodate this I did a double fold hem. As far as choosing a size, my waist measurement is obviously off the charts! So I went with my hip size, and actually one size up from what my hip measurement was. I didn't want the skirt to cling to my bottom or hips at all -- I wanted it fairly loose and flowing. I seamed the skirt in four pieces rather than two. I LOVE how it fits -- it is perfect. I used a medium-weight navy blue knit from Girl Charlee that feels a bit warm for summer weather, but will be oh-so-cozy as the weather cools off.
