I'll be demonstrating this technique on my army green tencel Lonetree Vest. This process will be the same regardless of whether or not you're using a serger.
Place one exterior side hood piece and one exterior center hood piece right sides together, matching the center notches. Pin the center hood carefully around the side hood curve and sew with a 1/2" seam allowance.
Place the opposite exterior side hood right sides together with the center hood. Pin and sew.
Press both hood seams open. Repeat this process for the hood lining.
Place the assembled exterior hood and the hood lining right sides together and pin along the front seam (the seam that runs along the sides of your face and top of your head). Make sure to match the hood seams and sew with a 1/2" seam allowance.
Press the seam allowance towards the hood lining. Turn the hood right side out and understitch on the hood lining with a 1/4" or 1/8" seam allowance.
Push the hood lining into the hood, pressing around the front seam well. The understitching should create a crisp fold.
Topstitch the front seam with a 1/2" seam allowance. Notice that I added double lines of topstitching to reflect the topstitching on my pockets.
Place the bottom raw edges of the outer hood and the hood lining together and pin. Baste the bottom hoods together with a 1/4" seam allowance.
Place the hood around the neckline of your vest or jacket, matching notches with the exterior hood against the right side of the bodices. The ends of the hood will not extend all the way to the end of the neckline.
Baste the hood to the neckline with a 1/4" seam allowance.
Nice work! Your hood is attached and will look even more finished once we add the collar. Tune in tomorrow to find out how to attach the armscye facings to the Lonetree Vest!
