It’s been a year since we’ve started curating collections of indie sewing patterns and it’s without a doubt my favorite part of running this little company. The warm reception you’ve shown to these little pattern bundles makes this quarterly process a total blast. For hours I get lost in pattern lists, inspiration boards, and fabric swatches. My goal is always to deliver a collection that is versatile, functional, and trendy.
This season’s collection is all of those things and more. The 2015 Fall Collection is folk-inspired with a good dose of comfort thrown in for good measure. And this one is offered in our largest size range ever. Both the Full and Mini Collections will accommodate up to a 44” bust and 46” hip.
With two knit garments—leggings and a draped cardigan—this collection offers comfortable basics that can be dressed up or down. I’ve added a brand-new woven blouse and shift dress that can be layered easily and transition well from hot to cool weather. And I’ve topped this collection off with an adorable backpack.
Yes, I say this every time we launch a collection, but this one is hands-down my favorite yet! The selection of indie sewing patterns to choose from keeps getting bigger and better. And while that makes for a tough decision process, it results in a killer final collection. So let’s take a look at who’s playing this time around:

The Pattern Players

The Cabin

The Cabin by Blueprints for Sewing is a shift dress with kimono sleeves, a back pleat, and weltless pockets. This dress looks great on its own with leggings or boots, and even better layered under a draped cardigan.

Our Cabin is sewn in our Blue and White Yarn Dyed Linen (I’m hoping to restock this fabric soon!). I sewed the contrasting, weltless pockets using our Mod Blue and White Rayon Challis for a bit of visual interest. They are the softest pockets you’ve ever felt. Blog | Cabin Dress Lookbook

The Beatrix

Meet Beatrix, Made by Rae’s newest women’s sewing pattern. The Beatrix is a woven blouse with a buttoned center back placket. This pattern has two hem and sleeve options. What’s better is that we’ve found this top to be a near-perfect fit on several different body types.

The Beatrix shown above is sewn in a soft Anna Maria Horner Loominous fabric for a handmade, folk look. This blouse also looks great sewn in drapey fabrics like rayon challis.

The Laurelhurst

The Laurelhurst cardigan by Straight Stitch Designs is a comfortable knit cardigan with a draped front and three sleeve options. This cardigan transitions from chasing kiddos around to date night with ease.

Our Laurelhurst cardigan is sewn in our Cream and Grey Mini Striped Jersey for a casual, neutral look. A slinkier knit, like our Rayon Lycra Jerseys, would create a lovely cardigan when paired with jeans and heels.

The London Backpack

My favorite new accessory, the London Backpack by LBG Studio is a small backpack with flap, drawstring, and fully adjustable straps. Two zippered pockets give you ample room to store all of your items.

Our London Backpack was sewn with home-dec–weight fabric paired with leather accents for a stylish, yet functional backpack. I scaled this pattern to 125% of its original size for a larger accessory. A full blog post with those instructions is coming soon!

The Sloan Leggings

The Sloan Leggings by Hey June are an absolute must for every handmade wardrobe. These leggings feature a shaped waistband with built in media pocket. They’re ideal for both everyday leggings and workout wear. Plus they sew up in just a few hours.

This pattern includes petite, regular, and tall versions so you can achieve the perfect fit. Make sure to sew yours in a knit fabric with four-way stretch and excellent recovery. Our grey performance knit was a Polyester Spandex blend.
