Indiesew's Top Ten Most Popular Patterns in 2017

It's my favorite time of year! At the end of each calendar year we throw a bunch of data into an excel spreadsheet to find out what resonated with you all throughout the year. My favorite countdown list to put together is this one: The Top 10 Most Popular Patterns in 2017.

But before we get into that, here are a few highlights from 2017:

  • Our revenue grew by over 40% from 2016! Major happy dance happening over here.
  • We launched our first online course, The Sew Your Favorite Jeans Workshop. And there are more to come!
  • Three stellar new employees joined our team: Mallory, Angie, and Presley. So grateful for each of them.
  • We moved into a dedicated Indiesew office! We're so much more productive now.
  • We released our largest survey to-date to get a better understanding of the home apparel sewing market.

Whew! This year has been a ride, that's for sure. We have big plans for 2018 based on the feedback you have provided in our survey and through email and comments you've left on our feedback page. Keep the ideas coming!

But without further ado, let's see what patterns were the most popular this year. This list excludes all collection sales and includes only the sales of individual patterns. Check out our 2016 and 2015 bestsellers lists too!

P.S. Interested in buying one of these patterns? There's a coupon code at the bottom of this post!

10. Coram Top and Dress

The Coram Dress and Top from our 2017 Fall/Winter Collection has been a great seller the last few months. This is a super beginner friendly pattern with a relaxed fit!

9. Halifax Hoodie

Halifax Hoodie Sewing Pattern | Hey June

Hey June always has a least a few patterns in our top ten lists and it's easy to see why. The Halifax Hoodie has five separate views built into one pattern. It's the perfect cozy top for winter!

8. Santa Fe Top

Another Hey June favorite, the Santa Fe Top went crazy when it was released! This swing tank top or dolman-sleeve shirt is a quick sew and flattering on all body types.

7. Cheyenne Tunic

If you're on the hunt for a good button-up or popover collared shirt pattern, look no further than the Cheyenne Tunic. On the fence about this intermediate project? Don't worry, Adrianna's instructions are incredibly detailed.

6. Lonetree Jacket

I'm surprised to see the Lonetree Jacket on this list because it's a more involved project that I know not everyone wants to tackle. But after we published the Lonetree Sewalong we saw so many of you sewing up your own. This utility jacket or vest is a great light fall or spring layer!

5. Lane Raglan

Lane Raglan Sewing Pattern | Hey June

The Lane Raglan by Hey June has been one of our top five most popular patterns every single year since it's been released! Adrianna updated it in March of 2016 for an even better fit and it clearly has become the go-to knit raglan pattern in our community.

4. Ella Top

Ella Top Sewing Pattern | Liola Designs

The Ella Top by Liola Designs is a crowd favorite again this year because it sews up in a snap and is a great beginner pattern. You can see our version in the 2015 Summer Collection.

3. Minttu

Minttu Top Sewing Pattern | Named Clothing

I was super excited to see the Minttu Swing Top make this Top Ten list this year! I am so smitten with its all-in-one facing that we published a how-to video for attaching it to create a super clean neckline and armhole finish.

2. Highlands Wrap Dress

Proud mama moment here. My second sewing pattern (and let's be honest, also my favorite) the Highlands Wrap Dress was really popular this summer. I love how many people branched out and tried this 70s silhouette. Checkout all the pretty versions on Instagram!

1. Ogden Cami

Ogden Cami Sewing Pattern | True Bias

No surprise here, as we know that approximately 99.99% of the sewing community has sewn the Ogden Cami. This design by True Bias is a stash-busting project that sews up super quick. It's a flattering tank top that looks great in a multitude of woven fabrics. We love this pattern!

And because we want to share these ten bestselling patterns with you, we’re offering them at 15% off for the next week! Use coupon code BESTSELLER17 at checkout to receive the discount until 10 p.m. MT on Thursday, January 4.

Happy sewing!
