Ballard Sewing Pattern by Straight Stitch Designs | Creation Roundup on

As our two weeks of Ballard fun come to a close this weekend, it seems only appropriate to roundup all of the awesome Ballard creations that have been uploaded to the site. There's so much sewing inspiration, in fact, that we can't feature them all! So let's take a look at some of our favorite creations of this awesome sewing pattern we've seen thus far.

If you're just now tuning in, you have a lot to catch up on! You can purchase the Ballard top and browse creations here. Follow along in Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4 of our Ballard sewalong for step-by-step instructions (with hints and tips!) for a perfectly finished handmade item. Finally, see how we wear the Ballard top sans waistband in our style post. We love this pattern. Can you tell?

But for now, let's check out what the Indiesew creators are making!

Colorful Ballards

Color was a big theme for many sewists as they sewed up their Ballards. These three tops are our absolute favorites. We're blown away by how much a fun printed knit brings a home sewn top up a notch! Go check out Ajaire's, Mandalynne's, and Jaime's creations, buy yourself some fun printed sweater knit, and get sewing!

Neutral Ballards

If you're like me, you sew nearly everything up in a neutral color so that it works well with your current wardrobe. We love these neutral Ballards because the visual interest comes in either the fabric choice (hello, mesh sleeves!) or the awesome black and white prints. We love these Ballards because we know they would work in nearly every sewist's closet. Go see for yourself by checking out Amy's, Abby's, and Shawna's creations.

Ballard Variations

Kimberly, the mastermind behind Straight Stitch Designs, has included a plethora of options for this pattern. If you're not keen on the peek-a-boo back with waistband version, not to worry! She offers the option to sew up the Ballard with four additional designs. From left to right above you see the standard two panel peek-a-boo back Ballard, the one panel back with waistband version, and the one panel back with hi-lo hem.

You'll remember from our style post, that I chose to sew the open panel back design with no waistband.

Not only do we love this top because it's utterly adorable and a quick sew. We also love supporting a brand new indie designer by helping her totally unique patterns get a bit more visibility in the sewing world. Go get your copy of the pattern and show us your sewing mojo by uploading your creation. You'll be providing a bit of inspiration to the rest of the sewing world and you'll be helping support one totally awesome woman and her family.
